When you want to give a unique and special gift, it’s tough to know where to start. Should you make something your own? Do you have someone at the top of your list who loves Legos but has never received one as a gift? If so, it cannot be very comforting. DIY gifts are great because they’re an opportunity to express yourself through the gift rather than making do with what’s in the store.
For kids, I decided on Lego-inspired DIY Hidden Puzzle Trays because they’re not just fun – they double as excellent educational tools.
DIY Hidden Puzzle Trays are perfect because they appeal to kids of all ages. For preschool-aged children, they’re an entertaining way to build fine motor skills. Older kids, provide a meditative puzzle challenge that encourages them to slow down and focus on the details.
These DIY Hidden Puzzle Trays are also great for a party favor or as a place-setting in place of traditional napkins for a themed meal.
I decided on Lego-inspired trays and then worked backward to create this unique gift.
DIY Hidden Puzzle Trays allow you to be hands-on and make something that’s completely customized. They’re a great way to help a child feel special and make it easier for parents.
Here are the supplies you’ll need:
3 x 1/2 inches of plywood, cut into 4 squares (make sure to buy your cuts at the same time)
Lego bricks of different colors and sizes, approximately 150 pieces. I used bricks from my kids’ Lego collection, which probably has over 600 pieces. You could also use Lego Friends and similar ones found at any toy store.
